Overweight/ Obesity and trying to conceive
A healthy weight is very important in both women AND men when trying to conceive. It plays an important role in the geniting programming of healthy eggs and sperm and, therefore, healthy offspring.
Being overweight is one of the most common reversible causes of an irregular cycle in a woman. It may affect your ability to fall pregnant because excess weight results in higher than normal oestrogen. Oestrogen dominance due to a high body fat percentage makes it 3 X more likely to struggle with hormonal imbalances, which affect ovulation and, therefore, chances to conceive successfully.
It is recommended that women achieve a body mass index (BMI) of less than 29 before trying to conceive.
Low BMI and trying to conceive
A BMI less than 20 may be associated with ovulation dysfunction, whether you genetically have a low weight or consciously restrict energy to maintain a lower weight.
Your Fertility Trained Dietician can help.
Reverse recent weight loss to a BMI equal to 20/ return to the weight associated with normal menses.
Your Fertility Trained Dietician's written plan and support will be a very useful tool in this situation.
